Golowan 2019

Penlee Park Open Air Theatre have three great events happening during Golowan week;

Flying Tales Drama workshops for youngsters - Saturday 22nd June at 4.00pm

The workshops are designed to encourage stories from play. We may use a Cornish lore, a new-fangled idea or your hidden wild haired family legend as a starting point. We will head off, twiddle with words, keeping pace with fable and stroll them into tales about stuff. The very stuff that dreams are made of, then proceed to throw in some bright heeled tinder to catch the imagination and startle the slumbering mind’s eye. There will be movement, possibly mime, maybe a mask and plenty of time. Parents welcome to watch and grab a drink or ice cream from the bar!

Accompanying Adults FREE.

Book online; https://penleepark.ticketsolve.com/shows/873599241 or call the box office on 01726 879500

Ticket Information: Adult FREE, One Child £5, Two Children £7, Three Children £10.

St Stythians Band - Sunday 23rd June at 7.30pm

St Stythians Band was formed in 1928. It soon achieved contest standard and regularly takes part in contests around the country. It is perhaps most well known for its regular attendance on the Bandstand at the Gyllingdune Gardens, Falmouth for over 50 years, and for its all-day attendance at the famous Stithians Agricultural Show. Expect to hear some well-known band classics and perhaps, a surprise or two from this award-winning group of musicians! The Band is very friendly and is more like a family than some organisations. In the past fathers, mothers, sons, daughters and cousins of the same family have all learned to play and been members of the band, a tradition that is still continuing today. The Band is very fortunate to have James Burns as its Musical Director (MD). He was Principal Cornet for the Band until appointed as MD, a role he has held now for 10 years, and we hope you enjoy the lively programme he has chosen for you for their debut in the Park.

Ticket Information: Adult £6, Concessions £5, Child £4

LUCINDA HAWKSLEY – ‘ELIZABETH REVEALED’ - Friday 28th June at 7.30pm

In 2015, Queen Elizabeth II became the longest-reigning monarch in British history. Her reign has been an extraordinary era, shaped by inventions and social changes that would have been unthinkable in the 1950s. Come and discover a new side to the first female member of the Royal Family to serve in the armed forces and the first British monarch to be filmed in 3D. The Queen has elevated British fashion designers to the global stage, has helped charities raise over £1.4 billion and has been embraced by popular culture, starring with James Bond, inspiring Carrie Fisher’s costume in her final Star Wars appearance and becoming the first British monarch to Tweet. However, it’s not all about Hollywood stars, high fashion and fictional super spies: within the private walls of Buckingham Palace, the Queen was, rather ignobly, nicknamed “Gary” by her grandson.

Join author and historian Lucinda Hawksley as she discusses her new book Elizabeth Revealed.

Ticket Information: Adults : £15.00, Child : £6.00, Concessions : £12.00, Family : £38.00
